Annual Family Workshop Weekend (date TBC)
April 1, 2020 - April 30, 2020
**2020 EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS BUT STAY TUNED – WE CAN’T WAIT TO RESCHEDULE!**
This event takes place at the Stirling Court Hotel in Bridge of Allen in March/April each year.
The hotel is an excellent venue for us with lots of space for the kids, inside and out. The staff at the hotel have got to know our needs over the last five years and really help to make the weekend a great success.
The idea behind the event is to bring families together – give parents the chance to learn more about Nf1 and the various aspects relating to it, in a child free environment where they can concentrate on the information and not have to worry about their kids.
To give the kids the chance to meet each other, have fun in an environment where they are not being judged. Where everyone is equal, and no one cares if an 11-year-old wants to play with the two-year old’s toys
We employ a professional creche over the weekend and weather permitting, the kids have enjoyed games outside, walks in the woods, face painting, crafting, videos, painting, model making and much more. We also have a “quiet space” where kids can go if they feel overwhelmed or just need time out. We have a “chill” room. This is equipped with video games, board games and Lego etc. A craft room where masterpieces are created!! All in all, the kids have a fantastic time and it’s amazing to watch how well they all interact and just accept each other as friends no matter the age or gender. Check out our video here:
The weekend starts on Saturday morning and ends on Sunday afternoon. It’s a packed weekend with speakers such as Medical Geneticist Dr Wayne Lam, Autism Trainer Tanya Tennant, Sleep Scotland, Mind Room, Carers Trust, NSPCC, Alliance Scotland, Genetic Alliance, Contact a Family and many more. We try to vary our programme each year, but Dr Lam and Tanya Tennant are both resident speakers.
The weekend is a chance to ask those questions you never feel able to anywhere else. It’s a chance to meet other families in the same situation as you and to get the chance to discuss that openly and make new friends.
Why not come along next year? By joining our Facebook page for Scottish families you will be kept up to date of all our events https://www.facebook.com/groups/funnylumpsscotland/
We’d love to see you there!
